Ring Always Home Cam: An Autonomous Flying Indoor Home Security Camera

Ring Always Home Cam: An Autonomous Flying Indoor Home Security Camera

Ring Always Home Cam is a newly launched, innovative home security product from the Amazon-owned brand that ushers in a new era. A few years ago, this device would have belonged to sci-fi movies set in the future. However, today it is a part of our real world.

Ring Always Home Cam – An Introduction

Ring Always Home Cam is a home security camera that is not bound to a single location. It is an autonomous indoor security camera that can fly around the house to give you multiple viewpoints from a security standpoint. You can consider it to be a Wi-Fi security camera mounted to an indoor drone. The device can move from one room to another while recording footage. It has been primarily designed to keep an eye on your home without the need for half a dozen cameras. A single Ring Always Home Cam can be adequate for checking what goes throughout your home.

Always Home Cam rests in a base that doubles as a charging station. There are four rotors for propelling the Always Home Cam, that function similar to a drone. It is fully autonomous and can’t be controlled manually. The drone takes about an hour to charge and has a flight time of about five minutes. While the runtime may seem low, it is adequate for covering an entire house. When the battery runs low, it goes back to the dock for recharging. It is designed for indoor use only. Ring Always Home Cam has a Full HD camera that records videos in 1080p resolution. The main advantage of Ring Always Home Cam is that a single device can fully monitor your home. It is easy to set up as well, requiring no hard wiring or maintenance. You don’t have to repeatedly change batteries, unlike Wi-Fi cameras, as it charges on its own.

Ring Always Home Cam – How Does It Operates?

The Always Home Cam integrates with the Ring Alarm home security system. Whenever the security system is triggered by an alarm or a sensor, the Always Home Cam will automatically start flying and navigate the charted path. The alarm system will send a notification to you. You can watch the feed from the camera of the Always Home Cam using the Ring app on your smartphone. It will allow you to see what exactly is happening at your home. The camera also starts recording once it leaves the base and can store the footage to Ring’s cloud service if you have a subscription. Homeowners can also manually trigger their Always Home Cam using the app. It can be useful if you want to check if all of your home’s windows are closed or if the stove is turned off. There is no need to take a trip back when you can check the same remotely.

You don’t have to learn drone operations or manually maneuver the drone. Instead, you can chart a custom flight path using different waypoints throughout your home during the setup process. To program the flight path, you will have to manually carry the camera on the same route through your house. The Always Home Cam will store the path that you take and traverse this route automatically when required.

Ring Always Home Cam – Tackling Privacy and Safety Concerns

Many tech experts have expressed privacy concerns associated with Always Home Cam. However, it has a few built-in features to tackle them. The airborne home security camera sticks to your chosen flight paths and will not deviate from them. There is no need to worry about it invading private areas such as a bathroom. Its camera does not function when the device is docked, and even the base physically blocks its view. The device won’t start recording unless it leaves the dock. It lacks a microphone, so it can’t record audio, which is good from a privacy viewpoint.

Always Home Cam also hums at an audible volume while it is in motion and recording so that the people closeby are alerted to the same. These features were deliberate additions to the drone for privacy reasons. To further enhance privacy, Ring is going to implement end-to-end encryption in its Always Home Cam and other products. It will improve security against hacking and exploits, allowing only the owner to access the video recordings.

Ring Always Home Cam comes with obstacle avoidance technology to steer clear of any objects that may lie on its flight path. You don’t have to worry about it knocking off your precious vase collection or colliding with curious pets. The device itself is small and lightweight, and its propellers are shrouded for enhancing safety. If it encounters any unexpected obstacles, it will go back to the base station and report an error to you.

Ring Always Home Cam is a single security device that covers every nook and cranny of your home. Ring Always Home Cam is expected to debut in 2021 with a price tag of around $250. You may have to spend more on a Ring Alarm Security Kit if you don’t have one already.
